Mum's homecooked meal - Sat, 8th March 2008

As Mum leaves for HK tomorrow, she cooked a lovely dinner last Saturday. We had some wine with our meal and after dinner sat around catching up with UR, full of good food. I love Saturday nights in in our cosy house.
We started with some pumpkin fritters with beer and peanuts.

Fried calamari - we don't usually have deepfried food at home so we all fell upon them. I made a tabasco/Heinz tomato sauce with mayo dip to go with the fried calamari.
MORE deep fried stuff - Mum is a firm believer that you might as well go the full way once you start, remember the 4 trays of radish cake, the 3 pots of meat stew, and the 2 trays of waterchestnut cake? Now prawn fritters. (She thought since she had the wok out filled with oil, we might as well make full use of it and we did)!
Some braised pork with beancurd sticks.
2 plates of broccoli/sugar snap beans with abalone
And delicious creamy turkey carcass soup with onions, carrots, cabbage and whole white peppercorns.
Whole tableshot - we also had some wax duck/chinese sausages (from HK), soft shell crab from TH (oh dear, I think Mr Tan's Chefs are too heavy handed with their usage of msg and salt in their kitchens). Ano more vegetables fried with garlic and a bit of salt.
